Carv Finally Launches!

My babies are making it out of the workshop! Carv is finally on Kickstarter and we couldn't be happier. Carv is an intelligent-ski-coach wearable which tracks your skiing and gives real-time feedback. I finished working on it in September, which you can read about here.

Using a 48 cell array of high-sensitivity pressure sensors, gyroscopes, and a range of other fancy technology Carv works out the skiing weight distribution, carving force, foot stance, pivoting, and a host of other useful metrics which coaches and instructors can currently only guess at.

We were a long ways away from this during my 10+ years of ski racing and when I instructed, and currently the only folks with this type of gear are the German (and perhaps a few other) national racing teams.

Some of the performance is extremely obvious when you take a peak at the raw data Carv produces, such as the pressure distribution and carving angle, but it was hard work training the machine learning algorithms to detect the more subtle elements of a top performer's skiing. The nice thing is, no matter if you are a podium racer or a complete gorby this can provide targeted feedback to help you take it to the next level.
